Have you noticed that your toilet has had a slow flush? Weak flushing toilets can be frustrating however, there are a few common problems that have easy solutions to get your toilet flushing properly again. Check them out below!

Water in the tank is low. If your tank is flushing slowly, it could simply be because the float needs to be adjusted to allow the water level to increase. Be sure to handle the float with care as damaging it could cause a leak.

Flapper closes quickly. In order to get your toilet tank to drain properly, the flapper needs to be adjusted to the right distance. First, check the length of your flapper chain. If it's to short, it's likely there isn't enough water flowing through the tank. Shorten the chain to ensure more water runs through each time your toilet is flushed.

Your toilet is clogged. A plugged up toilet could be the reason your toilet has a weak flush. To determine whether or not you have a clog, grab the plunger and go to work. If this doesn;t work, you may have to call in the professionals.

Buildup. From time to time, you may notice the rim of your toilet gets clogged with calcium and other minerals that can cause a weak flush. To fix this issue, grab the toilet bowl cleaner. You may need to try this a few times before fixing the problem completely.

"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

As you're putting the final touches on your dinner menu, guest list, and last minute gifts for your upcoming holiday party, we're sure the last thing on your mind is your plumbing system. However, a clogged sink or toilet is the last thing you need to worry about while entertaining a house full of people.

To avoid a holiday plumbing nightmare like this, check out what you should keep in mind during your holiday entertaining below.

Keep toys away from the toilet. We know this may sound crazy, however, it's not uncommon for small toys to be accidentally flushed down the toilet or dropped in the garbage disposal. Beware of the little ones on the lose with small toys and try to keep them away from your plumbing systems.

Scrape Dishes Well. Holiday dinners are usually extravagant and plates are filled to the max. When your guest are done eating, be sure to scrape off plates as best as possible to avoid food from clogging the drain when dishes are being rinsed.

Prepare. If you notice in the next few days that your kitchen sink isn't draining properly, or your toilet isn't flushing efficiently, be proactive and call your plumber now! Taking these measures before you have guests over can save you a huge headache on the day of your party.

On behalf of all of us here at Mitch Wright Plumbing Heating and Air, we hope you have a wonderful holiday season. If you find yourself in the face of a plumbing nightmare at your holiday party, don't worry, your friends at Mitch Wright are always here to help! How To Avoid Plumbing Issues

"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

Plumbers get calls everyday to repair everything from drain back ups to a pipe springing a leak, but they even get calls to fix issues that are easily avoidable. Below are a few things you shouldn't do to avoid having the plumber on speed dial.

Treating the garbage disposal like a trash can. This is one of the most popular incidents that plumbers get called over for. Items such as bones, rinds and grease should be kept out of your disposal. For a complete list of garbage disposal dont's, click here.

Flushing hosehold items down the toilet. This is another common problem that the handy dandy plumber gets calls for. Items such as tweezers and small toys should never be flushed down the toilet (no matter how small). This causes them to get trapped or forced down the sewer line which can cause even bigger problems.

Cranking on a faucet handle. This is something we are all guilty of! When the sink or shower continues to drip once it's been turned off, it is in our nature to push or pull it really hard to try and get it to stop. Pressing to hard on the handle can cause it to break without solving the drip!

Plumbing issues happen, no matter how hard we try to avoid them. If you have a plumbing issue in your home, we encourage you to contact Mitch Wright Plumbing, Heating and Air. One of our friendly professionals will be over in no time to get the issue fixed for you! To learn more, visit www.mitchwrightair.com.

No one wants to discover a leaky toilet tank in their home. Not only is it an inconvenience to your daily routine; you may not know how to fix it. Luckily, the plumbers at Mitch Wright Plumbing, Heating and Air are here with tips to patch things up.

  • Locate the shutoff valve at the bottom of the tank. Shut the water off by turning the valve clockwise.
  • Drain the tank by flushing the toilet. A sponge can be used to clean up the excess water.
  • Hold the tank bolt nut. Use a wrench to hold the nut which is underneath the tank bolt.
  • Take a screwdriver and unscrew the tank bolts. This should be done for the second bolt as well.
  • The tank should be removed from the bowl. Lay it on a flat surface.
  • Remove the spud washer with an adjustable wrench. Put a new spud washer over the spud nut.
  • Take off the bolts and gaskets. Put a new gasket onto each bolt.
  • Put the bolts through the holes on the bottom of the tank. Then, reinstall the nuts.
  • Last but certainly not least, replace the tank on the bowl.

Plumbing Myths Debunked

"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

We're sure you've heard the expression "don't believe everything you hear." This is especially true when it comes to the internet and plumbing tips! Mitch Wright Plumbing is here to debunk a few plumbing myths that you may have come across while searching the web.

Myth #1: Minor leaks don't need to be dealt with right away
This is false. Leaky faucets are a plumbing issue and should be dealt with as soon as the issue arises. Not only are you wasting water, but you're wasting money as well! Over time, that slow drip you hear will lead to a higher water bill.

Myth #2: Flushable Wipes are Flushable
Don't be deceived by the name. Flushable wipes cause a tremendous amount of plumbing issues! The truth is, flushable wipes don't biodegrade like regular toilet tissue does. If you do have these types of wipes in your bathroom, dispose them in the garbage can and keep them away from the toilet!

Myth #3: Ice Cubes Sharpen Garbage Disposal Blades
This is false. However, ice cubes will help to clean your garbage disposal, but they will not sharpen the blades.

Do you have questions about plumbing myths? Give our professionals a call today! We would be more than happy to help you out or come on over and fix any plumbing issue that you may be experiencing. For more information, visit www.mitchwrightair.com
