"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

If you're the proud owner of a garbage disposal, we're sure you know how convenient they can be when entertaining during the holidays or cooking a big dinner for your family. Not only do they cut down on the amount of garbage, they also help you to quickly dispose of food scraps taking up counter space. However, garbage disposals do require routine care to ensure foul odors don't take over and to keep the system running efficiently.

Check out a few tips on how to upkeep your garbage disposal.
  • If nasty odors are lingering from your system, pour half a cup of baking soda into your system followed by a cup of white vinegar on top. Let the mixture sit for approximately five to ten minutes and then turn your hot water on and let the system run for a couple of minutes. This should help to eliminate unpleasant odors!
  • Have sludge and debris piled up and your system is no longer working as efficiently as it should? Fill up a large cup with ice cubes and pour salt on top of them. This will help to clean your blades. Although the noise wont be a pleasant one, the job will get done!
  • Using citrus is another great way to clean and freshen up your garbage disposal. Cut up a few pieces of any citrus fruit you have on hand such as lemons, limes, or oranges and toss them down the disposal. Let the cold water run and turn your system on for a minute or two. Your system will be smelling fresh and clean in no time!

"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

Will you be hosting a party at your home this Super Bowl Sunday? If so, we're sure you're finilizing your menu, getting the house decorated in support of your favorite team, and tidying up. However, a house full of people means your plumbing will be working overtime. And we all know the last thing you want to be doing while trying to enjoy the halftime show is calling the good ol' plumber!

Check out the tips below on how to avoid a clogged toilet on the day of the big game!

Garbage pails galore.
Be sure there are plenty of garbage pails around the house, especially in the bathroom. If you notice the pails are full, empty them immediately. If your guests see that the waste bin is full, they will most likely toss their garbage in the toilet bowl and give it a flush.

Relocate toilet tank decor.
Do you have decorations and other bathroom accessories resting on your toilet bowl tank? If so, be sure to relocate them during your party. These items can be easily knocked into the bowl and if they go unnoticed, they'll be flushed therefore causing a clog!

Keep the plunger handy.
Halfway into the second quarter you notice the toilet bowl all of your guests have been using is flushing weak and slowly. Don't panic! Grab the plunger right away and if need be, plunge again in another hour or so. Plunging throughout the evening can avoid your toilet from becoming completely clogged.

Should you find yourself in the face of a plumbing nightmare on Super Bowl Sunday, your friends at Mitch Wright are available twenty four hours a day, seven days a week to help you out! We can be reached by calling 662-349-3547. To learn more about Mitch Wright Plumbing Heating and Air, visit www.mitchwrightair.com.

Do you ever stop and think about the amount of money your heating costs year after year? We know it isn't cheap! Don't let this winter be the same. There are a few ways you can save on heating costs this winter and come spring, you may be surprised to find a few extra bucks in your pocket!

Check out the tips below:

Adjsut your thermostat.
We all love to come home to a warm and toasty house, however, this could be one of the reasons you're breaking the bank. Adjusting your thermostat back for the hours you're out of the house at work or school and the hours you're asleep can save you a lot of money. Your wallet will thank you!

Here comes the sun.
On those bright and sunny days, utilize the sun to warm up your house. Open the curtains while the sun is shining to heat up your home and be sure to close the blinds when it goes down to keep the heat inside.

Dress appropriately.
If you get chilly throughout the day, it's normal to automaticlly head for the thermostat and turn up the heat. Next time, throw on a big cozy sweater, fuzzy socks and cuddle up under a blanket. This is one of the easiest ways to cut back on heating costs!

Purchase a humidifier.
Investing in a humidifier will help save you money on heating costs in the long run. Humidifiers can help keep the air in your home moist which will make it feel warmer. Warm air also holds heat better.

Insulate.
Each and every year, hundreds of thousands of dollars are lost due to heat escaping homes because of the lack if insulation. Making sure your home is properly insulated will certainly put more money back in your pocket.
