"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

If you're the proud owner of a garbage disposal, we're sure you know how convenient they can be when entertaining during the holidays or cooking a big dinner for your family. Not only do they cut down on the amount of garbage, they also help you to quickly dispose of food scraps taking up counter space. However, garbage disposals do require routine care to ensure foul odors don't take over and to keep the system running efficiently.

Check out a few tips on how to upkeep your garbage disposal.
  • If nasty odors are lingering from your system, pour half a cup of baking soda into your system followed by a cup of white vinegar on top. Let the mixture sit for approximately five to ten minutes and then turn your hot water on and let the system run for a couple of minutes. This should help to eliminate unpleasant odors!
  • Have sludge and debris piled up and your system is no longer working as efficiently as it should? Fill up a large cup with ice cubes and pour salt on top of them. This will help to clean your blades. Although the noise wont be a pleasant one, the job will get done!
  • Using citrus is another great way to clean and freshen up your garbage disposal. Cut up a few pieces of any citrus fruit you have on hand such as lemons, limes, or oranges and toss them down the disposal. Let the cold water run and turn your system on for a minute or two. Your system will be smelling fresh and clean in no time!
