"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

Did you know household leaks waste more than 1 trillion gallons of water annually across the nation? March 14th-20th oficially marks Fix a Leak Week! This is the perfect opportunity to remind homeowners of the importance of fixing a household leak as soon as it's detected.

Check out a few tips below on how to detect a leak. Should you notice any of these signs in your home, be sure to call the experts at Mitch Wright Plumbing Heating and Air right away.

  • Check your water usage (especially in the colder months). If you're using more than 12,000 gallons of water per month, your home could have serious leaks.
  • Take a look at your water meter before and after a two hour span where no water is being used in your home. If the water meter reading changes within that two hour a span, it's likely there is a leak.
  • Closely examine all of the faucets and pipe fittings in your home for any water on the outside. Should you see any water on the surface, there may be a leak.
  • Place a drop of food coloring in your toilet tank. If any of the color makes it into your toilet bowl after 10 minutes, you have a leak. (Be sure to flush your toilet right away to avoid staining your toilet bowl.)
