"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

Now that it's finally starting to feel like winter, there is no better time to make sure your pipes and home are prepared. Taking necessary precautions can help avoid major plumbing nightmares that can be costly and put a damper on your day!

Prevention
One of the best ways to avoid your pipes from freezing is prevention There are many steps homeowners can take to prepare your home and pipes from a possible disaster such as pipe insulation disconnecting outdoor hoses. By taking these steps, you will avoid costly repairs and headaches down the road.

Warning Signs
Have you noticed that the water in your faucets isn't flowing properly? Or that your toilets aren't refilling immediately after being flushed? Consider there warning signs of possible frozen pipes! Additional signs include a coating of frost on your water line or an enlarged water line. Should you notice any of these things in your home, call your plumber immediately.

Thawing
Should you scope out a frozen pipe before it bursts and creates a disaster, consider yourself very lucky! However, you've got some work to do. Your first step should be to turn off the water supply and apply direct heat on the pipe using a hair dryer. You can also apply heat tape to the pipe. Once you've got the pipe totally thawed, be sure to insulate it to avoid it freezing again in the future.
