"The Right Prescription for Comfort"

Although no type of emergency is a good one, plumbing emergencies can be stressful and troublesome. Whether you come home to find a toilet that's overflowed or a pipe that burst, there are a few steps you can take right away before calling Mitch Wright Plumbing to come to your rescue!

Turn off the water
The number one most important thing you should know about your plumbing system is where to shut off the water. The main valve is usually located in the basement of your home or outside.

Turn off individual appliance valves
In the case of an emergency, the most ideal thing to do would be to turn off the water supply to pipe/appliance that caused the emergency. Each fixture in your home should have it's one shutoff valve. Try to familiarize yourself with where the valves are located before a plumbing nightmare arises.

Remove electronics or other valuables
Try and salvage as many items as you can as quickly as possible, especially electronics. Move them to a dry area and pat them down with a towel or cloth. If a carpet or floor was affected by the emergency, let them air dry and see how they're holding up a day or two later. They may need to be discarded or replaced depending on how much water they were exposed to.

Clean up the mess
Once you've got the emergency under control, try and keep the area clean and contained to just one room. Soak up the water using towels or old sheets.
